Amanda Veitch is a Youth Ambassador for the URC and here at West Derbyshire we were delighted to support her request for postcard size items with messages on them. Amanda took these to Greenbelt and together with the many other URC’s throughout the country a lovely display was exhibited in the URC tent where they also encouraged people to make a postcard message. Please look at the URC Greenbelt website for more information. The picture is of one section of the display.

On Sunday 26th March a lovely concert was held in our Church given by the Wirksworth Music Centre. We were pleased that they wished to use our church as their venue again. The church was full and there were group items and solos. A delightful evening.
Wirksworth Music Centre is a registered charity that gives about 140 local children the opportunity to play music together and improve their instrumental skills. Every Saturday morning in term time, 12 groups of children meet at Anthony Gell School to play wind and string instruments. The music centre’s intention is that the students should have an enjoyable musical experience while learning new skills. Each group is led by a professionally qualified musician and teacher. Derbyshire County Council is invited to monitor the music centre to ensure that high standards are maintained.
The students range from beginners to Grade 8 standard and from 5 to 18 years of age. Most live in or near Wirksworth but quite a few travel from further away, such as Matlock, Crich and Ashbourne.
Wirksworth Music Centre presents concerts at the end of each term to give the students an experience to savour, to reward the parents for their dedication and to raise funds as the budget is always marginal. Teachers and students enjoy performing at Wirksworth’s United Reformed Church where the acoustics are excellent and the welcome is supportive.
Friday 3rd March at 2pm. It was successful with a wonderful fellowship at the close of the service!
The Women’s World Day of Prayer was held at the URC and was led by Joyce Brown with representatives of all the churches in Wirksworth taking part. The service “Am I Being Unfair to you?” has been prepared by the women of the Philippines.
Women’s World Day of Prayer is an international, ecumenical, prayer movement initiated and carried out by women in more than 180 countries and over 1000 languages. Christians of many traditions celebrate a common day of prayer on the first Friday in March. Through the Women’s World Day of Prayer people around the world:
- Affirm their faith in Jesus Christ

It was lovely to meet up with friends old and new and enjoy fellowship together and so nice that members of other churches in the town joined with us. The money raised was for church funds.
