Past Event: Maundy Thursday Service

At the URC  a quiet reflective service was held  on Maundy Thursday Service at 7pm which helped us reflect on Jesus’ journey to the cross and during the service  will  were invited to share communion.

Past Event: Wirksworth Book Festival

The Wirksworth Book Festival brought a whole host of activities, talks, performances in the town and much more for adults and children.   At the URC on the Saturday and Sunday (following the morning service) we welcomed visitors from far and wide into the church for coffee and cakes when they also browsed the book stall.  Both days were busy and it was good for us to be part of the Book Festival.

Past Event: Mothering Sunday

A Mothering Sunday Service led by our Minister Revd Camilla Veitch.  After communion everyone was given a posy of bright yellow daffodils by the Sunday Explorers.

Past Event: Spring Coffee Morning

Once again Wirksworth was in the grips of winter, and the town was deserted.  However this did not dampen our spirits and everyone who managed to get out and support us had a very enjoyable time, either browsing the goods on offer or sharing fellowship over a cuppa – people even got from Ashbourne and Buxton!!!  Thanks to Joyce and Eva for organising the event.  £580 was raised for church funds.

Past Event: Lent Groups

The Lent Group Gatherings  held at the URC  were successful and well attended.  Thanks to the clergy who in turn presented each week so ably.

Past Event: Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Pray Together : THAT ALL MAY BE FREE is the title of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.  There were  services during the week from 18 – 25 January when congregations of all the churches  joined together.

Past Event: Christingle Service

Our Family Christingle Service was held on Sunday 7th January 2018 at 10am.  The Christingle Service was held in the Glenorchy Centre and was quite informal as we sat around the tables making our christingles as part of the service.  It was a joy to make the christingles together and learn what each of the symbols represent.

Past Event: 2017 Christmas Church Bazaar

On Saturday 18th November we held our Christmas Bazaar  in the Memorial Hall.  A considerable amount of hard work had gone into preparing the lovely stalls and it was great that so many people came to support us – we met up with old friends and met new people.   £962 was raised for church funds.

Past Event: Folk Carol Service

On Friday 5th January 2018, by popular request, we held our third Folk Carol Service.   The service made a lovely start to the new year and it was lovely that so many people were able to join us.  Please read the short report in our February newsletter.

Past Event: Christmas Dinner

There was a good turnout for the Christmas dinner (cooked by the men of the church) and everyone enjoyed the meal.  Thanks to all who helped in any way.
