Church family walk
On Sunday 30th September we are organising a church family walk on Stanton Moor. We will start the walk at 2pm from a designated meeting point and walk across to the Nine Ladies stone circle where we will stop for a while for a picnic and maybe some games (please bring something to drink and a snack), and then walk back to the cars. The outing will last approx. 2 hours plus travel time to get there. We will try to car share so that everyone who would like to is able to come along. I believe it is great to ‘walk and talk’ together, it is wonderful to have the time to talk to each other and to appreciate being outside in God’s wonderful creation. We’re in good company, as Jesus did a lot of ‘walking and talking’ and lives were changed because of it! Everyone of any age is welcome, the walk is on fairly level ground, and it’s not limited to those who come on Sunday mornings – if you would like to invite someone along, please do so.
Please let Camilla know if you are coming, or if you’d like further information, so that I can give you details of where we will meet and so that we can arrange car shares where needed. Camilla 01629 826913
Our Harvest Thanksgiving and Communion Service will be held on Sunday 30th September at 10am and will be led by our Minister Camilla Veitch. Our Harvest Appeal this year will support the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (operating in England and Wales) which offer financial support to farming people in hardship of all ages. Please do come and join us at this special Harvest Thanksgiving Service.

We are pleased to welcome Mo Walton to the URC for the Art & Architecture Trail (8/9 September2018) – “Having been brought up in Derbyshire I have known its peaks and dales since childhood. My semi-abstract paintings are inspired by the changing atmosphere and colours of the moorland, fields and local quarries. Drystone walls and ancient tracks cross and divide this land, telling of its past. These are the influences and feelings which I try to evoke in my work. My paintings of British breeds of sheep are more naturalistic. I am intrigued by the variations in these animals which are usually thought of as simply white and fluffy.”
In the Glenorchy Centre (which is just opposite the Church) members/friends of the church will be serving served coffee, lunches, tea and cakes on the Saturday and Sunday 8th and 9th September. As you walk around the Art & Architecture Trail we will be very pleased to welcome you if you call in at the Glenorchy Centre for tea/coffee/cakes or a meal. Also in the United Reformed Church Mo Walton will be displaying her work – do please call in. (Please see the event Mo Walton on our website.)
Over 150 artists/craftsmen exhibited their work in private homes, historic buildings, gardens and courtyards, shop windows, churches and unconventional gallery spaces all over Wirksworth.
